StarTeam FolderBuddy

The problem: Files that no longer appear in the StarTeam repository still exist in your local working folder.

The cause: When someone else deletes a folder from StarTeam - you get no feedback, the files in it simply stop appearing in your navigator. One would expect them to appear as "not in view"... alas, they stay there - unmanaged.

How to avoid: This problem can be avoided by first deleting the files from the view and only then removing the folder, then - only the empty folder will remain in your working folder - and that's much less of a problem.

A solution: introducing FolderBuddy, a small java application that will compare your local folders with the StarTeam repository and generate a list of unmanaged folders. If you enable auto-move - it can also move these folders outside of the local working folder.

Source-code and classes*: starbuddy-src.zip (17KB)

*You must have starteam-sdk.jar in your classpath to run FolderBuddy. For more information about the StarTeam API and how to license it, see the Borland web site.
